The following program is held at the Cairns Yacht Club at Marlin Marina. The cost is $200 per term, or casually per session $30. Play-On vouchers are accepted as well. The participants must be able to swim a minimum of 50 meters. Lifejackets are provided, and we recommend you bring a hat, water bottle and use reef safe sunscreen. Sunsafe clothing is also recommended.
Tackers is an 8-week sailing program held during school terms 2,3 and 4, taking place on Friday nights from 4-6pm. It is a non-competive and social sailing program, with game-based activities on and off the water. It is designed for children aged 7 to 12 years. The boats used are called Optimists and they are made for kids due to their small size, light weight and their stability. The children will build resilience, independence and confidence. The sessions are led by teenage instructors who are qualified through Australian Sailing and are supported by adult instructors. Safety is a key focus of the program, with measures including the use of safety boats, radios and lifejackets. Parents are encouraged to get involved by assisting with moving boats, helping with the barbeque and acting as extra eyes on the water. We ask that every family abides by the code of conduct.
