WAGS
Wednesday Afternoon Go Sailing is referred to as WAGS in 2026
WAGS to re-commence 11 Feb – Local yachtsmen and women can invite crew to join them in a social race on picturesque Trinity Inlet on Wednesday afternoon, subject to weather. Pre-registration is opened 48 hours prior for the limited number of spots available each week. There are pre-requisite requirements to be eligible to be invited aboard the private vessels for WAGS.
Once registered meet at Marlin Marina CYC boatshed at 12 noon to see if you are invited to join on board to sail with a private vessel owner and return for drinks after the race. Please note spaces are invitation only due to limited vessels, spaces are not guaranteed. Skippers have absolute discretion to invite or decline any visitor. The Club will respect each skipper’s decision without requiring justification. If you have a boat and would like to join our fleet, please contact us, as we would love to grow our CYC fleet.
Cost is $25.00 for a SailPass (Casual Day Membership) for non-CYC members prepaid when you register, and drinks are available for purchase afterwards, to help raise funds to support sailing in the local community.
What to expect:
- A yacht race is different from a leisure cruise.
- Yacht racing, like most water sports, is considered a Dangerous Recreational Activity.
- Yacht racing can be hard work, both physically and mentally.
- Vessel manoeuvres happen frequently, which will cause the boat to heel from side to side and heave to and fro.
- Yacht racing is fun!! But it can also feel hectic (and therefore stressful) at times.
When joining WAGS as a race crew member, you are signing up to actively participate in sailing the boat. You need a level of fitness and capability for tasks such as:
- Moving safely about the deck of a moving yacht. The deck is likely to be heaving & slippery while underway.
- Assisting with raising, lowering, and trimming the sails. This involves pulling or winching lines (ropes) with your arms and back, and gripping lines with your hands.
- Actively listening & following directions at all times and stay calm. (and especially if there is an emergency!!).
- Please help us keep everyone safe by letting us know if there is any reason you may be unable to undertake these tasks while aboard.
